COMMITTEES
CCCA’s volunteers are the heart of our nonprofit and the ones who make things happen! Whether you are volunteering special skills, expertise or experience, or offering your time and energy “where ever needed”, there is a place for everyone in the work to preserve Comal’s rural character and precious natural areas. As a growing group of passionate believers in the need to balance growth with the protection of the natural resources needed to sustain our communities, we invite everyone to get involved.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: To stay informed of city and county projects, initiatives and challenges involving conservation of natural resources; to educate and advise officials about the importance of land conservation and providing parks, preserves and open space for the citizens of Comal County; to assist in identifying funding opportunities for protecting significant natural areas and habitats as well as aquifer and surface water systems.
CURRENT FOCUS: We are currently focused on educating elected officials and other decision makers about public funding options for land conservation in Comal County. We are assisting Comal County Commissioners Court to identify options for the county to conserve land now, before the opportunity to do so is lost.
COMMITTEE WORK INCLUDES: Researching various funding options (private land donation, conservation easement donation, grants, loans, bonds) and developing information packets and talking points to explain how conserving land is critical to the county's water resources, tourism industry, and economic future.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE
PURPOSE: To raise awareness of CCCA and its mission to preserve the natural resources in Comal County; to educate the community about the importance of open space in our county and the need to preserve it; and to provide information about conservation strategies and opportunities for assistance.
CURRENT FOCUS: Providing demonstrations and sharing information to our fellow citizens at community events is the major focus of the Outreach Committee. As community events start being held again, our participation will focus on the interactions between land and water in Comal County, complete with demonstrations of how karst rock channels and holds water in our aquifers and how surface water runoff impacts the quality of the water we drink. We are also designing a traveling interactive exhibition featuring the amazing natural features that make Comal County unique and highlighting the benefits of protecting them during this time of rapid growth.
COMMITTEE WORK INCLUDES: Participating in community events around Comal County to increase awareness and understanding of natural resource issues facing our area as well as possible solutions; providing information on the importance of natural areas to the health and well-being of our residents and our economy; developing and sharing slide presentations on conservation and resource protection for community groups throughout the county, including HOAs, civic groups, church groups, and businesses; developing partnerships with community groups with shared objectives; working with the business community to develop support for land conservation and increased green space; and identifying critical aquifer recharge habitats and sensitive ecological areas at risk in our county.
